Ten-year-old Aki has spent the last three years drifting aimlessly through the empty spaces (or bubbles, as he calls them) that have opened up inside him, tossed about by time like the wind. He has been traveling this way, beyond his control, for so long that Aki has lost sight of the present moment, the time to which he belongs.

Tick tock!

Here it begins. The bubbles are taking Aki somewhere again. It's a journey out of her control with her best friend, Needle, a coniferous blue spruce seedling. Aki is scared.

Sometimes he finds himself in a place or time he's been before, and sometimes in a dark, gloomy world he doesn't know at all. The reason for his fear is precisely this: the unknown.

His bubbles lead him to a huge mirrored room. And he hears a voice. A girl his age and height, wearing strange clothes, is calling out. Her name is Min. She doesn't judge Aki, mock him, or show any surprise.

“Hello!” she says cheerfully. “I’m Aki. And this is my friend İğneli.” She nods her head, silently listening to their conversation from inside her shoe.
He points to the blue spruce seedling. "I've lost the present."
